Canine Good Citizen

The American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Program teaches responsible dog ownership to owners and basic training and good manners to dogs.  All Cavaliers, including both registered and rescue dogs are welcome to participate in the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC).  Michigan is one of 34 states that have passed Canine Good Citizen resolutions to advocate responsible dog ownership.

The evaluation consists of:
Accepting a friendly stranger.
Sitting politely for petting.
Allowing basic grooming procedures.
Walking on a loose lead.
Walking through a crowd.
Sitting and lying down on command and staying in place.
Coming when called.
Reacting appropriately to another dog.
Reacting appropriately to distractions.
Calmly enduring supervised separation from the owner.
